Each week, an Artisan joins us in our Wine Room. Reserve a spot in our Wine Room lounge for a Rarities tasting, where we showcase new releases, museum pieces, or large format wines. During your tasting, our Artisan will share insights about the traditions of small-batch winemaking in the Barossa and guide you through the essence of each wine.
This exclusive experience, emblematic of our collaborative essence, offers a rare chance to delve into discussions about the wine with those who craft them. Space in the Wine Room is limited. Reservations are imperative.
13 July: John Duval Wines with Sal Johnson
On pour this Saturday:
- John Duval Wines Concilio Shiraz 2022 - From Latin: To bring together in agreement. A soft textured, elegant expression of Barossa Shiraz, but not without fruit power. Sourced from two vineyards in Marananga and Ebenezer, best enjoyed in its primary fruited and vibrant youth. Read more: details
- John Duval Wines Annexus Shiraz 2022 - The 2022 is sourced from the Chapman family, who farm on the famed Kalimna sands. The Chapmans were a previous Grange grower. The first Annexus was borne in 2013 when John got access to an amazing 1858-planted grenache vineyard in Eden Valley. In 2016 John Duval Wines introduced an Annexus Mataro and finally, completing the deconstruction of Plexus SGM, an Annexus Shiraz in 2021. Each vintage John Duval Wines aims to highlight a different, exceptional single parcel of Shiraz to showcase the amazing sites they have access to in their home, the Barossa. Read more: details
- John Duval Wines Plexus Red Shiraz (47%) Grenache (32%) Mourvèdre (21%) 2014 - Directly from the family cellar. This is a superb example of an affordable and age-worthy wine. The Shiraz was sourced from old vineyards in the Krondorf, Marananga, and Ebenezer districts, Grenache from the Tanunda and Krondorf regions, and Mourvèdre from the Light Pass and Krondorf regions. This wine has recently joined the Langton's Classification with an "Excellent" designation.
From a family boasting four generations of South Australian vignerons, John Duval is one of the world's best-known winemakers. After 28 years with Penfolds, including 16 years as Chief Winemaker, John launched his personal wine project in 2003. A new challenge that would allow him to be involved first-hand from vineyard to glass and provide an opportunity to build something for his family. Rather than seeking to simply emulate Penfolds, the aim of John Duval Wines is to perpetuate the story of a South Australian wine family through a collection of structured and elegant wines made from fruit grown in exceptional old Barossa vineyards. Now established as a respected name in Australian wine in its own right, John Duval Wines welcomed a second generation, eldest son Tim, to the family business in 2016.
